WHILE THEATRES AND FILM SETS REMAIN CLOSED WORLDWIDE, ACTORS EMBRACE
World Monologue Games, a fast-growing global acting competition to be held entirely online, opens their doors for video submissions in the lead-up to a series of livestream events starting on 17 July 2020.
World Monologue Games is a global performing arts event which allows professional and budding actors from anywhere in the world to participate from their homes.
Public health measures adopted by most countries in response to COVID-19 have shut down the entertainment industries globally, yet World Monologue Games is an initiative designed to work with the current scenario. It provides entertainment to the masses, actors with a meaningful challenge, and prize money to winning performers during a period of economic downturn.
Event founder Pete Malicki says, “We have over 2,000 competitors from 80 countries already signed on, with submissions open until the 22nd of June. We want this event to be as accessible as possible so all performers are given one free entry on registration. On top of that, they are also given access to scripts and free livestream Monologue Masterclasses.”
Performers can submit in the Sprint (45-60s), Main (1-2.5 mins) or Endurance (5-10 min) categories, with additional categories for Amateurs, Youth (12-17 years) and Tigers (11 and under). Performances can be submitted in any language and will be judged by theatre, film and industry professionals worldwide, with the best performances competing in livestream Finals from July through September 2020.
Malicki, a renowned playwright, producer and creative business consultant, thinks this is on its way to being the biggest acting event in history. “I’m not sure if this many actors have ever participated in the one event before,” he says. “And we’re still getting registrations every day. I’m hoping to hit 10,000 competitors.”
