National Children’s Theatre is once again in action with our new production of Peter and the Wolf in our outdoor Imagination theatre. This great children’s musical follows the success of the 2020 delightful sold-out production of Road Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox.
In this time of COVID and its harsh realities, children (and parents!) will enjoy escaping the confines of homes and screens, and reconnecting with their imaginations. Through the story and music, little ones will once again be able to delight in the magic of live performance in beautiful and healthy surroundings.
In March, NCT’s outdoor Imagination Theatre will come alive once more to the sounds of Peter and the Wolf. This exciting new take on Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonic fairy tale for children will be brought to life by NCT’s Resident Artistic Director, Daniel Geddes.
The original tale encouraged children to recognise the different instruments in an orchestra as well as experience themes and motifs in music in a fun and engaging way. Staying true to the score and the original story, this adaptation is no different.
Three teenagers stumble on Prokofiev’s classic, and begin to explore its pages – with surprising results. They must retell the story, or their poor new friend, the Conductor, will be lost to its pages forever.
With an exciting young cast, featuring Sandi Dlangalala and Harry Faulkner (both recently seen in NCT’s Fantastic Mr Fox) , and Ashleigh Butcher, and newcomer to NCT Abby Molz, and set by Thomas Needham, instruments by Charel Bezuidenhout, music by Sergei Prokofiev arranged and programmed by Wessel Odendaal, featuring Danielle Wynter on the violin, this promises to be an adventure that will live on in children’s minds and hearts, long after the final bow is taken.
This production is a must-see treat for the whole family and is suitable for children aged 3 upwards. Note that NCT observes all COVID-19 protocols and the event is limited to 100 seats.
Remember to bring your sun hat, picnic basket, picnic blanket – and umbrella and camping chair which can be placed where not obstructing others’ view of the stage.
