Elvis Sibeko Studios has partnered with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Artscape to present Dance Can Dance, The Spirit of Enchantment on May 14 and 15 at Artscape Opera.
The musical, with ten songs all accompanied by various dance elements from ballet to African and contemporary, with some comedic magic in between, celebrates the healing power of music.
The aim of the show is to bring back the spirit of dance and music cinematic orchestra music and Afro Fusion dance style,” says Elvis Sibeko, who conceptualised the idea. He lives in Rondebosch.
The South African artist with years of teaching in the Netherlands will see his music, originally created electronically, brought to life for a full symphony orchestra by Damian Philander. Other partners in the project are the Indoni Dance, Arts & Leadership Academy with choreographer Sbonakaliso Ndaba and choreographers Mzokuthula Gasa, Maxwell Rani, Janine Booysens, Tercia Alexander Amsterdam. Other guests include Babalwa Zimbini Makwetu a Fleur Du Cap award winner who will sing works from her latest album, Ndiyehlela; the South African Youth Choir; and Mawonga Gayiya is an internationally acclaimed comedic magician.
Proceeds from the concert will help sustain those artists who have been severely impacted by Covid.
