Buskaid is back with their second online concert: “Soulful and Scintillating Solos”
The varied programme, chosen from concerts which took place between 2014 and 2019, includes an impressive, memorised performance of the first movement of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik; a heartrending interpretation of Bloch’s Nigun, by the young Buskaid violinist Mzwandlie Twala; Navarra by Sarasate, demanding high levels of virtuoso playing from violinists Simiso Radebe and Kabelo Monnathebe; Melvyn Tan’s sparkling performance of Saint-Saens’ Valse-Caprice – Wedding Cake; and to celebrate Valentine’s month, some glorious singing by Buskaid vocalist and violist, Mathapelo Matabane in “What’ll I Do, My Funny Valentine” and Nina Simone’s version of “Sinnerman”. The show is rounded off with some very upbeat (and somewhat athletic) Kwela.
