Claire Mawisa’s career in media started at 14 year old, when she started modelling, was catapulted in to the spotlight when, at the age of 15, she won the prestigious Cosmopolitan Model of the Year 1994.
The opportunity meant she travelled exotic destinations for her work assignments and graced many magazine covers. Claire has hosted various television shows across several channels, has built up an extensive radio career both on and off the microphone at stations such as YFM, Metro FM, Radio 2000 and Kaya FM.
At the end of 2014, Claire left Kaya FM to pursue her business interests and focus on her passion of empowering young women through her organisation Luminosity Lab – previously Planet Productions. As a qualified Life Skills coach she facilitates various empowerment workshops through her Code Teen initiative (www.codeteen.com), Me Only Better seminars as well as Corporate Carousel program aimed at professional women. Since the inception in 2006 Claire and her partner, Karen Burt, have interacted with over 95 000 young females across high school, tertiary and corporate environments nationally.In 2015 Claire joined the Carte Blanche team as an investigative journalist. She remains active in the television, radio and print sectors.
Claire continues to MC, Facilitate, give Empowerment and Radio Talks and provide Public Speaking as well Media Training for organisations on the continent. She has worked with organisations such as AIDS Healthcare Foundation South Africa, Sasol, Public Investment Corporation, Institute of People Management Namibia, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, Thebe Investments, Kimberly-Clark, Black Management Forum, Multichoice South Africa, as well as the Department of International Relations & Cooperation and others.
